In 2025, we are proud to present the 2023–2024 report, looking forward to share with you two years of outstanding scientific research and great teamwork in a single publication, developed under the editorial coordination of the CEGIST Executive Committee.
In 2021–2022, CEGIST made significant strides in research and public engagement, producing over 160 publications and actively participating in 25 projects, both nationally and internationally. We developed cutting-edge decision-making tools, sustainable operations models, and circular economy solutions with impactful applications across health, logistics, and environmental management. Our researchers also made strides in exploring the interplay of human capital and entrepreneurship within evolving demographics. Our outreach initiatives also expanded, highlighted by the creation of a recycling machine prototype, contributions to Portugal’s Circular Economy Action Plan, and participation in public science festivals and educational events. 2023-2024 were years marked by an intense period of preparation for the FCT Units Evaluation. While CEGIST was already operating at what we believed to be an Excellent level, our collective efforts during this time focused on ensuring that our achievements and impact were clearly visible - with the goal of elevating CEGIST’s classification from Very Good to Excellent. This objective became a catalyst for critical reflection, strengthening our alignment with the highest standards of scientific rigour, societal relevance, and institutional development.
