Joana Simões is an environmental consultant with experience in water resources planning and modelling, climate change mitigation and geographic information systems (GIS). She received her MSc degree in bioenergy from FCT/UNL in 2009 and a BSc (5-year degree) in environmental engineering from IST in 2005. She is currently enrolled in a PhD in Sustainability Sciences from the University of Lisbon. Her work is focused on consumer food waste. Her thesis, entitled Food waste reduction in Portugal: complementing information gaps to promote consumers’ behaviour change, aims to design an intervention that can trigger consumer behaviour changes to reduce food waste at home. Her supervisors are Prof. Ana Carvalho from CEGIST and Prof. Margarida Gaspar de Matos from ISAMB.
